Where are we traveling in May?

We all dream of an unforgettable vacation. Even if you cannot travel across seas and countries, it is impossible not to find countless destinations in Europe that can be unforgettable.

And believe me when I tell you that this guide will not be the same as the others you’ve probably read. Because I like to choose different destinations, I have collected here some places that you probably haven’t thought of. All are perfect for a romantic getaway in Europe. Everyone thinks of Paris or Venice, but we want something more special, don’t we? This does not mean that the two cities are not really wonderful, but believe me when I tell you that you can find more special places for such an occasion.

When you choose to stay in Positano or a Capri, the prices will instantly become “luxury”. The hotels, the food, the view – everything is superb on the Amalfi Coast! It is a destination that I will always choose, an incredibly beautiful place, where you will feel what “dolce vita” really means. Choose an exclusive hotel like Le Sirenuse for your honeymoon, hire a private transfer from the airport to the hotel (here.), take a sunset boat ride, and eat at some of Italy’s most famous restaurants. Spend a few nights in Capri or Ischia, and go and visit Sorrento and Herculaneum – you will have plenty to do for a week in the area. I suggest you organize your vacation yourself when you want to go to Amalfi, and on the blog, you will find all the information you need. When to plan a honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast? First of all, you should know that most places are closed during the winter, starting to open from April until the end of October – mid-November. Choose to spend a vacation here in spring or autumn, to avoid the crowds and to take advantage of the (slightly) lower prices. 

How to get to the Amalfi Coast

The closest airport to the Amalfi Coast is the one in Naples, from where I suggest you book a private transfer to Positano or rent a car.

One of the most picturesque areas in Europe, Alsace will fascinate you from the first moments. Here you can easily spend a romantic vacation in Europe regardless of the occasion or duration. Cities like Colmar, Strasbourg, Keyserberg, Munster, and Ribeauville are just some of the places worth exploring. Rent a bike and get lost on the cobbled streets, pedal through the vineyards between the cities, climb up to the hilltop fortresses, and go wine and cheese tasting. Switzerland is just a stone’s throw away, and Basel is less than an hour’s drive away. The Passte and Christmas markets in Alsace are among the most popular destinations in Europe, however, I would suggest you go to the area during the summer.

If you don’t get along well with heat, choose the months of May or October and enjoy the colors of spring and autumn.

How do you get to Alsace, France?

The easiest way to get to Colmar is to choose a flight to one of the nearest airports: Strasbourg or Basel is both less than 60 kilometers away. From there you can rent a car or take the train to Colmar.

You probably haven’t thought of Germany as a destination for May until now, but believe me when I tell you that here you will discover countless beautiful, extremely romantic small towns. The Romantic Road in Germany connects colorful medieval towns, goes along vineyards, and ticks off many of Germany’s castles. Also here you will discover Easter or Christmas Markets torn from fairy tales when you choose to travel at Easter or during the winter. Don’t miss: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Wurzburg, Augsburg, Cochem, Burg Eltz, and other castles in the area.

How to get on the Romantic Road in Germany

It is very simple because you can choose to land in Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart or Koln. From here, rent a car and make your own itinerary.

A vacation in Santorini is an affordable option for May when you choose to go out of season. This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, and when you know where to choose to stay, you will have an unforgettable vacation. The island of the Cyclades offers a multitude of activities, and the accommodation units are a dream. See the sunset on the caldera side, go wine tasting and try the liqueur wines helped by the sun, go hiking, and eat delicious local Greek specialties.

How do you get to Greece?

If you want to get to your destination faster, the best option is to buy a plane ticket. If you are not in a hurry and want to admire the scenery, by car or train is a great option

Giethoorn, Holland is a town where you won’t find cars, but you will be able to take a boat ride on the canals. Each house is built on a small island and has its own bridge. The grass is an unimaginable green, hydrangea bushes decorate the town for celebrations, and the houses are built in the same style, with roofs made of special materials. It’s true that the city can be incredibly crowded, especially during the summer, but I think if you choose to stay overnight, you can enjoy a few hours of peace and quiet because most tourists choose to come here just for a day trip.

How do you get to Giethoorn?

There is a multitude of means of transport to reach the Netherlands. Train, car, or fly to Amsterdam and drive to Giethoorn. (rent a car)
